Our Process

The VA disability claims process can wear veterans down fast. The forms are confusing, the response letters can be disheartening, and the process itself can feel disconnected from the reality of military service. Veterans are often expected to explain injuries, symptoms, exposures, and day-to-day impact to people who may not fully understand what service members actually did, carried, endured, or lived through.

AJ’s Harbor for Heroes helps veterans get organized, understand what the VA is looking for, and move forward with a clear plan.

We guide and educate you every step of the way, because this is your claim, your story, and your future.

1. Intake

The process begins with an intake form. This helps us understand your service history, claimed conditions, current VA status, prior decisions, and what kind of help you are looking for.

This step allows us to get basic information organized before any review begins.

2. Review

We review the information provided and look for important details, missing pieces, possible evidence gaps, and areas that may need clarification.

This may include reviewing symptoms, service history, prior VA decisions, and available documentation so we can better understand the full picture.

3. Guidance

We help explain the next steps in plain language.

This may include helping you understand what the VA may be looking for, what evidence may be helpful, how to organize your information, researching further information, and how to better prepare for the claim or appeal process.

4. Submission Support

You remain in control of your claim. We provide guidance, organization, and support so you understand what to submit and why it matters. We also provide guidance on preparation for a C&P exam, including what to expect.

Our goal is to help you move forward with a clearer, more complete, and better-organized claim package.

5. Next Steps

If the claim is approved, we celebrate that progress with you!

If the claim is denied or does not come back correctly, we help you understand the decision, review possible next steps, and continue moving forward with structure and determination.

A denial does not mean the end of the road. Sometimes it simply means the next step needs to be stronger.
